The PuraVida Showcase 2012

LAN Airlines invites you to The PuraVida Showcase 2012.  Hosted by Blue Beat, you will be given a glimpse into the heart of Latin America’s ever growing musical culture this October. The showcase features some of the biggest names in the continent’s urban music scene: Novalima (Peru), Sistema Criolina DJ Set (Brazil), Malalma (Colombia) and Francisca Valenzuela (Chile).

Festival Director Frank Madrid says, “The festival is all about breaking down barriers for participation, ensuring that Australians get to know what the Latin American music scene is like today. The mix is incredible, eclectic, and very sophisticated, just like Latin America!”

Kicking off the show at Blue Beat on Wednesday October 3 is Latin pop star Francisca Valenzuela, who will be supported by Gang of Brothers. On stage since age twelve, she is considered one of the most glamorous artistes in her genre. Her piano pop/rock songs refer to social or political issues, personal stories, intimate reflections, humor and love stories.

For a glimpse of her work check out one of her tracks:

“Buen Soldado” (Good Soldier)  or her official website

Afro-Peruvian Novalima will take the stage on Thursday October 4 for a night of dance along with a DJ set from Sistema Criolina DJs. The four members of the band mix various musical styles as traditional Afro-Peruvian rhythms and melodies with the cutting edge grooves of dub reggae, chilled-out electronica and funky Latin beats. On October 6 the Fiesta Festival in Darling Harbour brings us Malalma; an uber cool funk trio from Colombia, along with Francisca Valenzuela and Novalima.

Malalma are known as the “space cowboys” of Bogotá. Exuberant, electric and explosive, they describe their sound as Tropical Acid Latin Trip  – a fusion of electronica with funk, salsa, hip-hop and Afro – Colombian roots.  The trio is made up of Mauricio Montenegro (drums), Ivan Ortega (synths) and Sergio Arias (vocals & drum machines). After playing and touring all over the world, Malalma finally comes to Australia to present their new album Acidtopico.
