The New Thing 17/09/12

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Steve Russell – Dark Matters

The new album from Australian pianist Steve Russell also features Matt Smith on guitar, Greg Lyon on bass and Scott Hills on drums. It’s light piano lead jazz that dabbles in a bit of blues and samba.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Sambol’

‘Elsie’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Kindred’ by Mike Nock & Laurenz Pike from the album Kindred.

Tony Gould & Peter Petrucci – The Journey Home

Close friends Tony Gould & Peter Petrucci have been collaborating together for 25 years now, and this album marks that milestone. The Journey Home is a delicate affair throughout as Gould’s piano and Petrucci’s guitar play off one and other intimately and beautifully.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘The Trip’

‘Here’s One For You’

‘On Your Way’

The Alcohotlicks – Danaides

Sydney trio The Alcohotlicks are Ben Hauptman and Aaron Flower on guitar and Evan Mannell on drums. Danaides sees the three further experiment with an electronic sound as they adapt synths and samples into their music. The result is a wild and contemporary jazz/grunge rock/80’s electro creation, cool stuff!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

The Grizzlies’

‘Visual’

‘Baader’

Independent Track Of The Week

‘Knock Knock’ by BrotherFunk. Catch them at Notes in Newtown on thursday 4th October!

Hannah Williams & The Tastemakers –  A Hill Of Feathers

Hot off the press stuff this one, and what a CRACKER of an album. Hannah Williams & The Tastemakers’ debut album A Hill Of Feathers is set to be released on October 15th, and what an absolutely blinding debut album they’ve put together. Hannah Williams has got to have one of the most soulful voices out there at the moment that’s brimming with attitude, think the female James Brown, and The Tastemakers equally serve up cool soul music. A must have for soul brothers and sisters out there!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Get It (Part 1)’

‘Don’t Tell Me’

‘(When Are You Gonna) Say You’re Mine’

‘I’m A Good Woman’

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00am til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
