Quebecker super star Roch Voisine is performing in Sydney on November 21st at the Enmore Theatre.
When you say “Roch Voisine” to a French, automatically his answer will be “Helene” – his 1989 hit, “Quebec” – his city, and certainly also “super sexy” if you mention his name to a girl.
Joseph Armand Roch Voisine is a Canadian Acadian singer and songwriter. He is at the image of Canada as he sings both in English and French.
His genre? French songs, pop, rock, country and folk.
As he became really famous in 1989 with his love song “Helene”, he could have become a “has been” very quickly after that. On the contrary, Roch Voisine is still beloved by Quebecker and French people as young generations are craving for going to his concerts – I checked that on a Quebecker 26-year-old girl friend who lives in Sydney two weeks ago.
One must admit that Roch Voisine, like many of his fellow singer countrymen, is very likeable because he looks humble, natural, and has this Northern American “easy-goingness”. Also because his charm does not fade with time. Above all, Roch has managed to adapt his genre throughout time. His last albums are still in phase with who he is, oscillating between American folk and country music with his last three albums “Americana”, “Americana II” and “Americana III” and more traditional/ pop French songs with his last album “Confidences” released in Quebec in early September2012 and #1 album in Quebec / #3 album in Canada after one week!
Roch’s great success is certainly to be able to sing pop, rock, country songs both in English and French… which is not always that easy with the French language rhythm.

– He became a singer because he was too severely injured in 1981 to be a professional ice hockey player.
– His hit “Helene” sold three million copies in 1989 in Quebec, France, Belgium and Switzerland. Roch Voisine was awarded the Best Album prize at the French Victoires de la Musique.
– He was awarded France’s Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1991, won Canadian Juno Award for Male Vocalist of the Year in 1994. In 1997 he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
