The New Thing 29/10/12 Playlist & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Gregory Page & His Big Band Orchestra – Shine, Shine, Shine

Shine, Shine, Shine is Gregory Page’s 21st album since moving to The States! Funded entirely by his own fan base, the addition of a Big Band Orchestra sees Page adopt a 1930’s styled sound and swagger. A vintage throwback album.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Here To Stay’

‘Nothing But Trouble’

‘Shine, Shine, Shine’

‘My Melancholy Heart’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Beautiful Blue’ by Nigel Wearne from the album Black Crow.

Alister Spence Trio – Far Flung

Launched at the Seymour Centre just over a week ago, Far Flung is the fifth album from the Alister Spence Trio. Featuring Alister Spence on piano, Lloyd Swanton on bass and Toby Hall on drums, the album is a mesmerising and beautiful  performance of abstract jazz improvisation.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Brave Ghost’

‘Threading The Maze’

Hidden Orchestra – Archipelago

A special release this one. Hidden Orchestra are a fantastic quartet from Edinburgh that experiment with jazz, classical, rock, hip hop and electronic sounds. Imagine what an electronic producer does in the studio with synths and drum machines, Hidden Orchestra achieve the same results but with real instruments and natural acoustic sounds. Deep and intense, the album is a blinder.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Reminder’

‘Seven Hunters’

Independent Track Of The Week

‘Riding Tides’ by Ears from his debut album Red Silhouettes.

Secret Birds – In Hex

Sydney producer Secret Birds has produced an aural sensation on In Hex. Creating vast, intricate soundscapes that at times seems like a controlled form of chaos, Secret Birds takes you to a tripping psychedelic world with his reverbing drums, warbling guitar chords and cosmic samples. A blend of natural and synthetic, this album is awesome release from an talented independent musician.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘A Serpent With Corners’

‘Zen Pyramid’

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00am til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
