Well it’s my final show in a fantastic run of 6 while Sylvia has been away – she’ll be returning next week, so I hope all at Eastside enjoy todays program as much as I will!
My first guest will be Grant Dodwell – a producer, actor, writer and director with more than 30 years’ experience in the entertainment industry in theatre, film and television appearing in many of Australia’s best known stage shows and television series. He is best known for his acting roles playing Dr. Simon Bowen in A Country Practice and Charles Willing in Willing and Abel. Earlier he also appeared as Dr. Sam Wilkinson in The Young Doctors during its later years.
Dodwell worked on 2008 feature film Men’s Group, produced by John L. Simpson and directed by Michael Joy. Dodwell won the Australian IF best actor award and the film won Best Film and Script.
Grant’s joining us at Eastside FM to discuss his most recent production of “Codgers” – A Heart Warming Comedy about life, friendship and being a codger.
Then we’ll be joined by Woolarah artist Shelia Posner, whose work I first saw at the Hordern Pavillion Art Expo earlier this year – her new work, which I have pictures of on the Arts Wednesday blog, was particulary interesting to me as it includes musical instruments! Sheila’s art is vibrant and expressive. Early fashion design studies have a distinct influence on her painting and drawings. Media used reflect her diverse interests and teaching experience. Acrylic paint, screenprinting, ink, batik on paper, gold leaf, silk paper, pencil, charcoal…….. all used in different combinations. Each painting aspires to be a cohesive whole, which is equally visually stimulating and contemplative.

Then joining us at Arts Wednesday to discuss his new work (which we shall be listening to throughout the program today) is Damien Lane, a Sydney-based composer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. In 2008 one of Damien’s songs (The Shipwrecked’s Archway) was used in the short film Bella which screened at Flickerfest and other festivals internationally, including Cannes Shorts Corner, Australian Film Festival in London, LA Shorts and Palm Springs among others. This inspired an interest in screen music, and after submitting more tracks to short films and photography screenings, Damien undertook and completed a Graduate Diploma in Screen Music at AFTRS in 2011. One of the projects he scored there, INFERNO, premiered at Cinema De Antipodes at Cannes in 2012, and Damien was nominated for an MPSE Golden Reel Award for his work on the film.

Our final guest will be documentary maker Julian Knysh, who has just returned from Tasmania and in currently producing “Through the Trees and the Forest… Mine ore ours?”
Prior emergency heritage listing for Tarkine Wilderness lapsed allowing 9 open cut mines to be advanced through a weakened approvals process in the world’s second largest unbroken tract of the temperate rainforest.
Looking beyond conservation vs development this internationally significant documentary will explore all sides of the story.
