The New Thing 19/11/12 Playlist & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Michelle Nicolle Quartet – Mancini

Light vocal jazz from one of Australia’s finest voices. Michelle’s seventh long player is a collection of 10 of her interpretations of the music of Henry Mancini. Launched at the Wangaratta Jazz festival and at 505 last Saturday, her voice really is special.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Whistling Away The Dark’

‘Charade’

‘Peter Gunn’

Kevin Eubanks – The Messenger

A new one here on the prolific Mack Avenue music label, Kevin Eubanks is perhaps best known for his performances as leader of The Tonight Show Band hosted by Jay Leno. His guitar skills on this album are totally awesome as he inspires listeners with his textured strings that crossover between jazz and funk. Cool as a cucumber this one.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘M.I.N.D.’

‘Resolution’

‘Led Boots’

‘420’

Independent Track Of The Week

‘Holy Waters’ by Saritah feat. Gina Rene from the album Dig Deep. Catch her this Thursday at The Old Manly Boatshed from 8pm!

Hiatus Kaiyote – Tawk Tomahawk

For me, Hiatus Kaiyote are one of the most exciting bands in Australia at the moment. Hailing from Melbourne the band serve up a future soul sound the draws on Hip Hop, electronica, big beats, glitch, Latino and even at times opera. The sound is unique, infectious and just generally incredible! Catch them this Thursday at the Kings Cross Hotel, this EP is a must have!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Nakamarra’

‘The World It Softly Lulls’

‘Lace Skull’

‘Mobius Streak’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Firefly’ by Barney McAll from his album Graft.

Mala – Mala In Cuba

A culture clash of the best kind here. Dubstep Mala along with Gilles Peterson traveled to Cuba last year, and inspired by the sounds of Havana, recorded this album morphing latino vibes with dubstep beats. Undoubtedly dubstep of the finest variety.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Introduction’

‘Noches Suenos’ Feat. Danay Suarez

‘Como Como’ Feat. Dreiser & Sexto Sentido

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00am til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
