Dave Jackson Quartet – Cosmontology

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is Cosmontology by The Dave Jackson Quartet.

When Mike Nock describes your music as ‘another step up for Australian Jazz’ you take note. And that is exactly said about Dave Jackson’s first release under his own name – Cosmontology.

Just over a year ago local Sydney alto saxophonist Dave Jackson was awarded the ‘Skills and Development’ grant to study with some of the finest Jazz musicians in New York and Boston. During that stint he teamed up with pianist Sean Wayland, bassist Orlando Le Fleming and drummer Greg Hutchinson to create Cosmontology.

The result is an album of Jazz that focuses on melodic development. Progressions are open and interactive as each musician places their own character upon the improvisations. Yet throughout there is no doubt that Dave is the leader. His notes, although light, convey a strength and confidence with an additional measure of surprise adding to the overall intrigue of the release.

The album is a hugely promising debut and sees Dave quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting young jazz musicians on the Sydney scene.

Cosmontology is an independent release by Dave Jackson. For more information or to buy a copy of the album go to davejacksonmusic.com
