Menagerie – They Shall Inherit

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is They Shall Inherit by Menagerie.

A new album from a new group. Menagerie is the latest project from prolific Melbourne guitarist and producer Lance Ferguson. A busy man, Lance already this year has put out some stellar releases – The Bamboos’ Medicine Man, Kylie Auldist’s Sill Life and the recent Soul of Melbourne Compilation. However he may have saved his best release till last this year.

Adopting a slightly different approach to his more familiar projects, Menagerie is a true ensemble proposition as Lance explores the spiritual side to jazz whilst also throwing in some classic funk vibes. Also featuring Phillip Noy on sax, Mark Fitzgibbon on keys, Fallon Williams on vocals, and most excitingly, a feature appearance from legendary American vibraphonist Roy Ayers, They Shall Inherit serves up spaced modern jazz with a retro 70’s twang. Each member of the group is equally impressive as everyone gets there solo moment to shine. Oozing with groove and insight, look out particularly for tracks ‘The Chosen’ and ‘The Quietening’, They Shall Inherit is the exciting beginning from a group with heaps of potential.
