The Poetry Object

A new display at The State Library of New South Wales will reveal what’s most important to Sydney children – through poetry. To celebrate the International Year of Reading, students from all over Sydney took part in an unusual creative writing program by The Red Room Company and New South Wales Public Schools (Sydney Region): The Poetry Object.

Acclaimed Sydney poet, Astrid Lorange, carefully selected the top 30 student’s poems for this specially-designed poetry display. Along with the student’s work, celebrated poets Robert Adamson, Kate Middleton, Nicholas Powell, Rachael Briggs, SJ Norman and Samantha Hogg all wrote new poems about their own special objects.

WHEN: 10th November 2012 – 15th February 2013

WHERE: State Library of NSW, Macquarie Street (between the Royal Botanic Gardens and Parliament House), Sydney 2000

Five Suburb Sydney Derive: Architectural Bike Tour

This bike tour explores Sydney tangentially, beginning with the simmering industrial western edge before meandering through the back streets of its most dynamic and rapidly changing suburbs; Ultimo, Chippendale, Redfern and Surry Hills plucking out the most daring and provocative urban and residential projects along the way. This is no touristic join-the-dots. The route and the conversation will be loosely structured around a number of contemporary architectural and urban projects, contested sites and politicized themes.

While our route is as safe and quite as possible, a combination of bicycle paths, pavements, laneways and back streets, you will still need to be a reasonably confident cyclist.

You will enjoy a coffee break along the way.
