Steve Barry – Steve Barry

Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week is the self-titled album by Steve Barry.

Pianist Steve Barry moved to Sydney from his native New Zealand a few years ago now, and this, his self-titled album, marks his debut. Along with the likes of Russel Crowe or a delicious Pavlova, Steve Barry could quickly find himself being another Kiwi that we’re claiming!

Also featuring Alex Boneham on bass and Tim Firth on drums, Steve has explored traditional jazz music with a modern twist. Complex and vibrant rhythms are matched with layers of fragmented melodies and textured strings. The interplay between the three is dazzling, as Steve leads the improvisations equally creating uplifting momentum and technically astute softness.

The album has firmly placed Steve Barry on the map, and even more so cemented the notion of Steve as a Jazz man with great ambitions and fantastic intentions on the Sydney Jazz scene.

Be sure to catch him at the Jazzgrove Summer Festival 2013 on the 19th January from 7pm at 505 in Surrey Hills!
