Award-winning Japanese guitarist Shohei Yamaki to play in Sydney this Thursday

This Thursday January 10, Sydneysiders are in for a treat with the first ever down under tour by Japanese jazz guitarist Shohei Yamaki coming to Blue Beat in Double Bay.

Born in Sapporo in 1989, Shohei Yamaki studied the guitar greats of both rock and jazz and busied himself learning to produce the tones and styles that emerged out of late 20th Century America and Europe.

At the tender age of 23, Yamaki has already wowed audiences in Canada, Taiwan, Hong Kong and, of course, his native Japan.

Unanimously voted in for First Prize by judges from a field of over 200 at the Sapporo International Jazz Festival in 2010, he has since released two albums and has toured the Toronto Jazz Festival, earning the praise, “There is nothing he can’t do and no sound he can’t create. At such an early stage in his career, the musical word is in for a number of elegant surprises.” (Wellington Advertiser, Canada)

Check out this performance from 2011 at Famous Door in Sapporo, Japan:
