Aaron Michael – Aaron Michael

Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week is the self-titled album by Aaron Michael.

Sydneysider saxophonist Aaron Michael has been involved in the music scene now for 17 years performing amongst a wide spectrum of genres. His most recent project saw him tour with the British jazzfunk group The Brand New Heavies, and previous to that he’s worked with the likes of Katie Noonan, James Morrison and The Jersey Boys Theatre production.

However it was only until now that Aaron was able to freely convey his own musical expression on this his self-titled debut album. Teaming up with some of the local stalwarts on the Sydney Jazz scene – Matt McMahon on Piano, Duncan Brown on bass, Paul Derricott on drums and Dieter Kleemann on guitars, the result is an album that adopts the groovier and funkier side of jazz music.

There is an infectious and laid back feel to the whole release. Kick back grooves, sexy sax solos, jacked up guitar riffs and a basement jazz feel throughout, one could even go as far as saying that this could be the quite quintessential Australian styled jazz album.

Aaron Michael is an independent release by Aaron Michael. For more information go to aaronmichaelband.com
