Arts Monday on February 11th

Tropfest has announced the 16 talented finalists for 2013’’s short film festival, whose films will screen to the crowd at the Domain, Sydney, and free to air on SBS One on Sunday 17 February 2013. This year’’s selection is an eclectic mix of experienced and new filmmakers and a diverse selection of genres. We’re lucky at Eastside FM to have two Sydney Finalists with us!

Kevin Lim –  the director for The Pledge For Mister Bunny.
A boy’s fascination with machines leads him down a path of deceit and betrayal. BIO: Born in Canberra to Chinese immigrant parents, director Kevin studied a Bachelor of Screen Media at the University of Canberra and currently works as a Creative Director for an advertising production agency. In partnership with a number of his friends, including producer April Tafe, they formed Soda Honey Film and their first film ““lichen”” was nominated for Best International Short at Flicker Fest 2013.

Matt Bird – director of  Taser 
With 50,000 volts aimed at his back, Eddie wonders how it all came to this.
BIO: Born in New Jersey USA and a graduate of Media Arts and Production from UTS, Matt Bird has been a finalist in Tropfest in 2011 for A Desperate Deed and in 2012 for Min Min. He has entered the APRA Tropscore competition this year with The Exchange and he won Best Short Film at the Indie Spirit Film Festival in 2011. He is inspired by the likes of Christopher Nolan, Danny Boyle and David Fincher.

Finally  composer and Italian music maestro – Art Phillips, with his guitar to serenading us live in the studio – celebrating some tracks from his new album – “Chitarre Acustiche d’Italia” There is a story behind “Chitarre Acustiche d’Italia”, the story of a tribute to the Italian early heritage of an American/Australian artist; the story of the power of music in connecting cultures. Art Phillips, accomplished and awarded screen composer with over 30 years experience and success around the globe, locked up in “Chitarre Acustiche d’Italia” his family roots grounded in music and a cross-section of Italian-American culture.

All other music during the program was from Lloyd & Phillips “So Good, So Far”
