Sounds Of Soul chronicles and playlist (15.2.2013): Toping Up
I recently picked up the excellent self-titled album by Charles Mann, mainly for the classic early 7ts track “It’s All Over” on it, only to discover the 7″ version of this tune in a neglected part of my collection. In this case I have no regrets purchasing said LP because of the quality of the rest of this sought after piece of vinyl, but it’s not the first time that I have unwittingly toped up on records that I already own. You may think that the sheer magnitude of my collection is the reason for these lapses but that would overestimate its size or underestimate my mental capacity. It’s more my habit to rearrange my vinyl constantly in piles and shift those around that leads to those neglected and forgotten about records. A meaningful and regularly maintained database would certainly help too, but I’m way to lazy for this endeavour and on a positive side I would deprive myself of the pleasure to rediscover parts of my own collection from time to time.
