A Musical and Personal Journey with Eastside’s Arts Margaux Dombkins and Roy Eaton pianist, composer, producer on 18 March 2013
ARTS MONDAY 18TH March 2013 with Margaux Dombkins
My guest today – pianist, composer, producer Roy Eaton, brings us fascinating stories. We all know “The Entertainer” from the movie “The Sting” – the real story behind the music is far more interesting! Find out what inspired Joplin’s world renowned music– from writing and playing his music to entertain guests in Brothel waiting rooms, to composing three operas and “Rags”, to influencing other composers and creating the seeds for the birth of Jazz.
Roy Eaton gives us captivating insights into music over his 70 years of playing piano and composing. From playing Carnegie Hall in 1937, to winning the first Kosciuszko Foundation Award in 1950, to serving two years in the U.S. Army, to being inducted into The Advertising Hall of Fame, to performing in concerts across the world, and to being the featured artist at K’Ozzie Fest 2013 in Jindabyne to celebrate the history of Australia’s highest mountain.
Roy Eaton’s life story is one of spiritual and creative triumph – overcoming many difficulties and adversity. One of Roy’s missions has been to restore Scott Joplin’s works to the domain that it was Joplin’s intention that they live – as classical works in the tradition of the great European masters.
