Monique diMattina – Nola’s Ark

Hot off the press this one, Monique diMattina spends her time in between Melbourne and New York and the vocalist and pianist is set to drop her new album Nola’s Ark on May 10th. Recorded in New Orleans with a fantastic band that appeared on HBO’s ‘Treme’, the influence from the city is abundant with a sexy, soulful, good time and infectious feel throughout. A class release.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘What’s In A Kiss’

‘No More Coffee’

‘Godzilla’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Aznavour’ by Edouard Bronson from his album Intimate.

Renee Geyer - Swing

Renee Geyer – Swing

Swing is the 23rd album from legendary Aussie vocalist Renee Geyer. With a career spanning over four decades the Melbournian is still sounding fantastic with an album that pays homage to great swing bands from the 30’s and 40’s. Power vocals and awesome big band stuff, it left me breathless during the show!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Baby Please Don’t Go’

‘Comin’ Home Baby’

‘It’s A Man’s World’

NEO - The Near Earth Objects

The Neo – The Near Earth Objects

The Neo hail from The Northern Territory and they put out an eclectic sound of Funk, soul, jazz, reggae, rock and ska. An independent release, it’s energetic, unpretentious and fun stuff!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘White Dress’

‘I Like Your Style’

‘Come Down’

‘Red Light’

Independent Track Of The Week

‘Selfish’ by 20 year old Brisbane singer Jordan Rakei.

Kaki King - Glow

Kaki King – Glow

This release has been hovering around for a couple of months now and was totally overdue a play on The New Thing. Kaki King is one of the finest instrumentalists out there, and at the start of May the American begins her Australian Tour, with her show in Sydney set for Sunday May 19th. Dazzling playing skills with guitar skills swaying between folk, chamber, celtic and eastern influences. Mesmerising!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Bowen Island’

‘Streetlight In The Egg’

‘King Pizel’

‘The Fire Eater’

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00am til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
