The Catholics – Yonder
One of the releases of the year thus far. Lloyd Swanton leads one of Australia’s finest Jazz groups that also features Gary Daley on piano accordian, Sandy Evans on Sax, James Greening on Trombone, Fabian Hevia on percussion, Jon Pease on guitar and Hamish Stuart on drums. The eighth album from the group, they continue to bring their organic and innovative blend of jazz, afro roots, gypsy swing and reggae folk. A dazzling album, it’s also Eastside’s Album Of The Week this week!

Bombino – Nomad
The finest Tuareg guitarist out of Niger returns, and this time with an album produced by the mighty Dan Auerbach. As you would expect, it’s a corker. North African afro blues and tribal rock at its very best, it’s no wonder Bombino has been heralded as the North African Hendrix. His skills are to be heard to be believed!

Rokia Traore – Beautiful Africa
From one stunning African album to another. Malian Rokia Traore follows up her 2009 release with another incredibly beautiful, delicate and emotive album. The finesse of her afro roots is exquisite.
