Albare coming to Sydney with new album ‘Long Way’
“And Albare? He sounds like a positive blend of the late Wes Montgomery and an early George Benson. Airy and light melodic improvisations and the themes reflect an inner harmony of boundless grace.” – Jazzpodium (Germany)
Australian jazz legend Albare is set to tour Australia for the first time with theatre performances throughout April and early May, following a successful multi-continent tour that saw the guitarist and composer receive international critical acclaim.
The virtuoso jazz guitarist and entrepreneur Albert Dadon (stage name Albare), has dedicated his career to jazz in its contemporary variations and was a pioneer of Acid Jazz in Australia in the early 90s. Born in Morocco and raised in Israel and France, Albare first worked as a musician in Paris, before emigrating to Australia at the age of 27.
He is not only a well known jazz musician, but has also directed the Melbourne Jazz Festival and chaired the Australian Jazz Awards. In 2008 he received the Order of Australia for his service to the arts.
More recently Albare has released three studio albums (After the Rain 2009, Travel Diary 2010, Long Way in 2012). Long Way, released through prestigious German jazz label Enja Records, features triple Grammy winner drummer Antonio Sanchez (Pat Metheny Group), saxophonist George Garzone (the Joe Lovano Nonet), pianist Leo Genovese (Esperanza Spalding), prolific harmonica player Hendrik Meurkens and Albare’s long time musical collaborator, bassist Evri (Evripedes Evripidou). Albare calls this super group iTD, or the International Travel Diary.
Albare returns to Sydney on Sunday 5th May, performing at the Sydney Opera House Studio.
