Julian Marley to wake up the Metro, Friday May 10

JM1Julian Marley, the son of reggae legend Bob Marley, is visiting Sydney in May and will be performing live with the Uprising Band at the Metro on Friday 10th May 2013.

Julian is a Grammy award nominated roots reggae musician, singer/songwriter producer and humanitarian. Like his father he is a devout Rastafarian whose music is inspired by life and spirituality. Although born and raised in the UK he spent many of his formative years in Jamaica and some twenty years ago moved to live there to be closer to his brothers Ziggy, Stephen, Damian and Kymani.

In 1996 he released his debut album “Lion in the Morning” which launched him into the public eye, and for some time he toured with his siblings in the United States and around the world. For many years now Julian has divided his time between England, Jamaica and Miami and in 2009 his career rose to new heights with the success of his Grammy award nominated release “Awake”, released on Ghetto Youths/Universal Music Group. The album incorporates the roots-reggae sound that Julian has made his own, infused with street-energy hip-hop, bubbling dance hall, and a smooth combination of R&B and reggae.awake_300

Julian Marley ranks higher in the consciousness movement of music than most reggae artists recognised today, and has built a formidable reputation by transcending musical genres.

A socially conscious humanitarian at heart, Julian naturally leans towards building on charitable missions and contributing to the Ghetto Youths Foundation, which in the spirit of his father Bob Marley, allows him to give something back to youths in various communities. whether in London, Jamaica or elsewhere.

This will be an incredible night of reggae by one of today’s masters. Check out this clip of Julian Marley’s ‘Violence in the Streets’ (with Stephen and Damian Marley):
