Having now done The Showdown for several years, it can be hard to gauge whether a show is ‘odd’ or relatively ‘typical’. Today’s show felt kind of odd but in hindsight was probably basically typical. The welcome return of some Showdown regulars: Moondog, The Bad Plus, Jack Teagarden, John Zorn… and a few artists rarely, if ever, heard before on the show: Oxo Cubans, Bach (care of the Bach Collegium Japan), a few cuts from the Melvins’ latest offering, covers album ‘Everybody Loves Sausages’…
