India meets the Spain with Rasa Duende this Sunday at Camelot
A collaboration between internationally acclaimed musicians Bobby Singh (Tabla), Adrian McNeil (Sarod) and Damian Wright (Flamenco Guitar), Rasa Duende’s first recording “Improvisations” explores meeting points between Hindustani and Flamenco traditions.
The trio explores the melodies, rhythms and aesthetic thought embedded in both music cultures, allowing them to create a sound that is fresh but, at the same time, deeply rooted in tradition.
Described by John Shand (SMH) as “a fascinating cross-cultural project … full of surprises”, Singh, McNeil and Wright, all independently renowned for their musicianship, succeed in finding melodies and rhythms similar to both traditions, and work to create a unique sound.
In another twist, the artists have surprised by offering the first 50 presale ticket buyers a cookery demonstration, featuring Indian food with a Spanish touch.
Through a practical 40 minute demonstration, the musicians will discuss the recipe as likened to the composition of a Raga and its development in the mind of a performer, and how the methods of cooking Indian food reveal fascinating insights into the melodic universe of a raga. The demonstration explores this connection further through both cooking and playing, providing a valuable insight into the creative thinking and processes behind Rasa Duende.
