Dave Jackson Quartet heads to Venue 505 next Wednesday
Cosmology is the study of the Universe, Ontology is the study of the nature of things, Cosmontology is the study of the nature of the study of the universe and it’s also the name of Dave Jackson’s debut release under his own name.
Acclaimed Sydney alto saxophonist Dave Jackson was a finalist in the 2010 National Jazz Saxophone Awards. He’s toured extensively with various groups including appearances at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival and around the country as a member of Trio Apoplectic and the Warwick Alder Quintet in addition to The Denominators and The Dilworths. In 2012 he spent some time studying and recording in New York. Dave Jackson is now touring to promote his new release. It features the magnificent talents of Sean Wayland (piano), Orlando Le Fleming (bass) and Greg Hutchinson (drums).
For this national tour Dave will be joined by a stellar band of some of Sydney’s finest: 2012 Bell award winner for ‘Young Artist of the Year’, Steve Barry (piano), New Zealand expatriate Tom Botting (bass) and Paul Derricott (drums). Dave has commissioned Sydney based visual artist Linda Brancato of ‘Radcato design’ to compose a digital projection piece for the performances. Expect lush harmony with unexpected twists and turns, highly pleasing melodic material, philosophical anecdotes and even some hip hop grooves.
