Manhattan Magic

tmt2

New York vocal group The Manhattan Transfer bring their multi-award winning four part harmony to the Enmore Theatre this August.

Witness Tim Hauser, Cheryl Bentyne, Alan Park and Janis Siegel perform such Top 10 hits as Tuxedo Junction, Birdland, Chanson d’Amour and many more.

Looking back on one of the greatest bodies of American popular music, the Manhattan Transfer are adventurous, limitless and in the pocket.

The group was brought together almost by coincidence in 1973, but became an instant success – by the end of 1974 they were New York City’s number one live attraction, performing regularly at cabaret venues and receiving widespread media attention.

The quartet featured in various television specials and in 1975 they headed their own comedy-variety show which broadcasted weekly on Sunday nights.

Extenstions (1979) was the first album recorded with all four current members, and also earned them their first two Grammy awards, both for Birdland.

The Manhattan Transfer then made history in 1981 by becoming the first ever group to win Grammy awards in both the Pop and Jazz categories in the same year.

The group then continued the, by now fairly obvious, trend of astounding success with consecutive Grammies for Route 66 (1982) and Why Not! (1983) for the Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Duo or Group and Vocalese (1985), their eighth album, saw the group back into the history books with a record-breaking 12 nominations!

Having established themselves as giants of the music scene, and yet unwilling to rest, the quartet of highly creative musicians have continued to expand and experiment with a total of 28 albums containing a diverse range of original and covered songs ranging from Christmas tunes and children’s music to swing and jazz. They have toured extensively worldwide to sell-out audiences.

Catch them at the ENMORE THEATRE in SYDNEY on Sunday August 25th.
