new-pff-slider-01

From 22 August until 1 September Persian International Film festival takes place at the Dendy Opera Quays in Sydney. The Persian Film Festival is an independent cultural film event that brings together screen of stories of diverse global Persian communities. This is a one of a kind festival that showcases films from Persian speaking communities of Iran and Afghanistan and from the global Persian community across the globe to celebrate their similarities, diversities and complexities through film for both Persian and Australian audiences. The festival aims to be a platform for new and alternative voices of Persian communities, as well as being a leader in shifting views and miss perceptions in Australia by creating space and being a forum for dialogue between and among our diverse communities.

To represent a diversity of the cross-section of Persian communities both in their home countries and across the globe, Persian International Film Festival screens films of various genres and lengths created by those of Persian background, or those in which a key creative, such as writers, producer, or director is of Persian descent

The movie that will kick off this international film festival is ‘’A Respectable Family’’.  Arash is an Iranian academic who lives in the West. He returns to Iran to teach in Shiraz, a city far from Tehran where his mother lives. Drawn into a series of domestic and financial dramas, he faces a country that is now alien to him. Following the death of his father and the discovery of what his “respectable family” has become, he is forced to make choices.

There are films from 1969 until 2011 that will be showed. There is a Special Retrospective Program that contains Iranian films spanning of five decades, painting a vivid picture of how Iranian cinema and the societies and cultures it has reflected have changed over the years. The festival also features 25 sessions, including an Official Selection of short and feature films. Audiences are invited to vote for the ‘Best Feature’ and ‘Best Short Film’. Voters will go into a draw to win a DVD set by Iranian master filmmakers thanks to Madman
