Ms Dionne Warwick(pic.left)was just a pleasure to watch in concert and equally as charming to drink champagne with until the early hours of the morning.Harry Connick Jnr, another supremely talented entertainer who can write songs,play the piano,act in movies and star in Broadway musicals is also a charming individual to hang out with. The beautiful and talented Eydie Gorme (pic.rt.)passed away on August 10 at age 85.Performing solo and (for decades )with her husband Steve Lawrence, they became sweethearts of mid-20th century popular music.She sang in English and Spanish(which she spoke fluently since childhood)and was a Grammy and Emmy award winner amongst many other accolades.She and Steve dismissed trendy pop music fads and instead chose resolutely the music of the Great American Songbook.Today’s show salutes Eydie(and Steve) and the time available only allows a small selection of their unique talent to be exhibited – their recorded music continues the legacy of these great performers.Some different takes also today of the great Cole Porter -timeless music,clever lyrics and sung by experts e.g Frank(who else)?
