The Vampires Launch Their Highly Anticipated New Album ‘Tiro’
THE VAMPIRES release their highly anticipated new album Tiro with a nationwide tour in October 2013
Iconic Sydney-based band, The Vampires, are promoting the release of their anticipated fourth studio album Tiro with an Australian Tour and festival performances throughout October.
The Vampires’ music is a unique blend of soulful jazz, old school reggae, romantic Afro-Peruvian, danceable Afro-Cuban, exotic Balkan and all-out funk-laden Afrobeat. Combined with risk-taking improvisation, sophisticated compositions and an uncanny sense of dialogue and emotion between the sax/trumpet front line, the band defies these genres and has developed their own unique style as a result.
The band has enjoyed success from their three critically acclaimed albums South Coasting, Chellowdene and Garfish, as well as extensive touring, and festival appearances, over the past seven years, including the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, The Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, Brisbane International Jazz Festival, Peats Ridge Festival and the Sydney Opera House.
Described by the press as playing with “verve, high ability and inspiration” (The Australian, 4/5 stars), the band has developed a following across the country and drawn critical attention. The band’s award winning saxophonist and composer, Jeremy Rose describes the new album as “taking a new direction for the group…This album casts a wide net of influences but particularly draws from my recent travels, and musical studies, in Greece and Cuba.” The new album was also influenced by Nick Garbett’s travels to the Pacific island of Palau amd Columbia, and Alex Boneham’s sojurn in Rome over the past year. Yet at the same time, these diverse elements have conceptually fused.
TIRO is out October 7 on Earshift Music. The Vampires will be touring nationally in October 2013
