Marcel Khalife at Sydney Opera House

Marcel_Khalife_4

He’s been dubbed the ‘Dylan of Lebanon’ by the Los Angeles Times. Marcel Khalife will be filling our beloved Opera House with the sounds of Lebanon this month.

Joined by his talented sons, pianist Rami and drummer Bachar, Marcel’s performance will combine his signature sultry vocals and his incredible oud technique along with an extraordinary combination of “piano and percussion, shrouded within the frisson of electronic synthesisers and keyboards.”

With a story that begins in his native village of Amchit, Khalife along with his Al Mayadine Ensemble has become a recognisable entity all over the globe, famous for such compositions as Ummi, Rita W’al-Bunduqiya and Jawaz al-Safar. Songs like these boast a beginning in the poetry of Marcel’s long time collaborator Mahmoud Darwish, whose work provided the basis for the 2012 release “Fall of the Moon”. Though Mahmoud Darwish passed away in 2008, his words and sentiments live on through Marcel Khalife’s live performance and brilliant melodies.

Get down to our iconic white sailed building and immerse yourself in the traditional resonance of Marcel Khalife and his sons on Thursday 28th November. There’s not doubt it will be one of the most magical shows of the year.
