ARTS WEDNESDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2010

I have just found my voice, which I lost for a couple of days but I am nursing it! This means tomorrow I will just play music: no danger of loss of voice, coughing, sneezing etc!

My special guest in the studio was to have been Xinran, talking about the sad fate of so many girls in China: those mothers who are forced to abandon them adopt them out or even have them killed at birth and the Chinese adoptees in the West, many of whom long to know why their mothers gave them away. Unfortunately, I couldn’t talk on Monday when we were scheduled to prerecord and now she is in Brisbane on an Australia wide tour to promote her book.

However, I was going to play music by women and it still seems like a good idea! International Women’s Day is on 8 March – Arts Wednesday as usual ahead of the times!
