Sydney Poetry Bookers Picnic 2013
Sydney Poetry at Brett Whiteley Studio present the second Sydney Poetry Bookers Picnic in celebration of Sydney poetry and the regular readings held throughout the year.
The poetry picnic will feature representatives of regular readings held throughout the year. The initiative seeks to recognise the significance of these poetry events in forging poetry communities and developing support of the art form.
The family event will be located in the historic park reserves of the Paddington Reservoir Gardens, known for its contemporary urban design, stone work and sunken in gardens. The setting is a befitting endorsement of the vibrant and diverse poetry that happens every week in Sydney.
Those that book poets and coordinate events will come together in representation of their event and in celebration of the art form. These event managers ensure peots are supported within their communities to present their work. From the more established events through to the emerging, perfomative and the competitive such as the Australian Poetry Slam organised by World Travels, to the underground world-gypsies, of Caravan Slam.
The Live Poets Society at Don Bank Cottage has been running for 23 years, Sydney Poetry Readings at Brett Whiteley, 14 years. Sydney poetry events feature local, regional and international poets and collaborators across a range of different venues, from libraries, galleries, museums to pubs and clubs.
Representative poets reading are from Sydney Poetry at Brett Whiteley Readings, Caravan Slam, Live Poets Society, Poets Unlimited Press, Red Room, Rhizomic Poetry, Sapphos Readings, Sydney Poetry, Token Imagination, Wednesday Night Poets, WordinHand and World Travels.
The event is supported by Australian Poetry, City of Sydney and Talking Through Your Arts
