Tantalising African Sounds – Eclipse

As part of 2014’s Sydney Festival, Amadou Bagayoko and Mariam Doumbia will be performing their latest concert Eclipse in complete darkness.

It’s a way of experiencing music they’re keen to share with their audiences. Both artists became blind after birth, meeting at the Bamako Institute for the Young Blind in the 1970s.

Hailing from Mali, one listen to their music and it’s clear they create sounds to tantalise, with their exquisitely detailed melodies, harmonies and innate sense of rhythm.

Eclipse

It’s no surprise to learn they’ve garnered the support of some of the most well-known musicians in the world, performing on tour with bands like Coldplay, U2 and Blur.

According to the festival program, their Sydney Festival performances will “tell the story of their life and work together mixing in songs spanning their illustrious back catalogue.”
