Sinkane

Sinkane

Bass-laden and graciously groovy, this four piece exhibit an exquisite multi-cultural image. Ahmed Gallab fronts this musical outfit, who with every album creates a melting pot of sounds and genres. Starting out life in Sudan, Ahmed and his family moved through the various states of North America, a factor that he claimed has influenced his sound tremendously.

“I knew that there was a creative energy inside me,” he said. “It came from my background, the influence of various people I’d met all over the world, travelling, listening and dreaming of the ideal place. I knew that I was on a journey, that I was definitely headed somewhere.”

With the help of the fantastic drummer Jaytram, as well as former members from Shai Halud, Yeasayer and Afrobeat bosses Nomo, the fingertips of masters from all directions of the musical plane have touched Ahmed’s work, to bring his ideas into fruition.

2012’s recording effort Mars was welcomed into the musical community, given a solid 7 out of 10 by cultural conglomerate Pitchfork and a 4 out of 5 by UK’s The Independent. Sinkane’s sound is slowly but surely gaining more recognition. Now is the time to catch them while you can still see them in a small, party venue like the Spiegeltent.
