Jazz in New York – The Monash Sessions
Eastside Radios album of the week is Jazz in New York by The Monash Sessions.
A partnership between Monash Universitys Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music in Victoria and the prestigious New York University, this album is a collection of smooth instrumental tracks of pure jazz and occasional vocal elements of funk to create a melting pot of musical delicacies.
The recording features two New York jazz scene stars: Trumpeter Alex Sipiagin and saxophonist Alex Foster.
As part of their education, top Monash University jazz students were selected to attend the coveted NYU Summer Jazz Improv Workshop to improve their skills and open their eyes and ears to the possibilities within the jazz world. Mentoring, master classes, workshops, and numerous performances with some of the finest jazz musicians in New York City were made available to these lucky students, who recorded their compositions in the newly built and state of the art NYU James L. Dolan Music Recording Studio.
Earning a 4 star rating by The Australian, this CD is the perfect choice for our album of the week. Tune in to Eastside Radio 89.7FM throughout this week to hear tracks from this fantastic collaboration.
