My next guest: dancer and choreographer, Nerida Godfrey chats about her two pieces – Woomba and Triumvirate of Wit in the Short + Sweet Dance Festival
The 2014 Short + Sweet Dance Festival showcases more than 40 original pieces divided into 4 companies, each performing twice. Dance on film is included this year, with international entries.
After a 3 year absence of the genre, this year’s Short+Sweet Dance presents more of a showcase that unites emerging and established dance makers with audiences, with not as much emphasis on competitiveness.
The ‘Wildcard’ performances are also a feature of the festival – in this case allowing both a youth and experimental division to take the creative showcase even further.
Woomba -24 and 25 January Triumvirate of Wit – 22 and 23 January
Short + Sweet Dance at the New Theatre, King Street Newtown.
Program / Bookings: newtheatre.org.au shortandsweet.org
Gala final – Sun 2 Feb at 2pm and 7.30pm.
My next guests: Sarah Letters and Nicole McIntyre from the Hobart band Guerilla Zingari, chat about their debut album, Odes for the Reckless.
Guerilla Zingari exudes a unique, enchanting sound based on Gypsy/Roots with Folk and Reggae, Blues and Jazz and a little Pirate madness.
Comprising of Nicole McIntyre (songwriter/vocals/multi-instrumentals), Sarah Letters (songwriter/vocals/multi-instrumentals), Dave Elliston (piano according/multi-instrumentals/backing vocals), Pascal Chartrain (harmonicas), Issac Gee (double bass), and Emily Wolfe (violin), the band have an earthy whimsical sound and have carved a sound all of their own.
Odes for the Reckless is available from CD Baby and iTunes
