Sounds Of Soul chronicles and playlist (7.2.2014): Raw gems
My selections for Sounds Of Soul usually include at least one record that didn’t make it into the pressing plant in the time it was produced. Thankfully there are a couple of contemporary labels picking up these previously unissued tracks and release them long after they had been recorded in the 60s and 70s. It’s thanks to labels like Kent, Soul Junction and Hit and Run, to name only a few, that these recordings wont disappear completely and are available for a broader public. Listening to a raw gem like Mary Gresham’s ‘You’ve Never Really Lived’, which featured in last weeks show and sparkles with pure quality beside the fact that it obviously got stuck in a demo state, makes you think how much more of these treasures fell through the cracks back in the day.
