Spyglass Gypsies – Spyglass Gypsies

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is the self-titled debut from Spyglass Gypsies.

Hailing from our own city of Sydney, this band comprises guitarists Richard Ashby and Cameron Jones, Loretta Palmeiro with the clarinet and saxophone, Andrew Scott on accordion, and double bassist Shannon Haritos. Combining elements of jazz with the twists and turns of French gypsy swing, this five-piece inject a fresh wave of intricate yet quirky sounds into the local jazz scene.

Performing regularly throughout Sydney since early 2010, these guys have played numerous gigs at jazz centres such as The Camelot Lounge and at the legendary Illawarra Folk Festival at the beginning of this year.

In support of this fantastic album, the band will be returning to Marrickville’s Camelot Lounge to play the launch of its Django Bar. Performing this Friday, 28th February, expect to hear compositions that will urge you to move and will not let you sit down until you’re on the way home.
