Gurrumul – His Life & Music: Live with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is His Life & Music: Live with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra by Gurrumul.

Gurrumul 1

Arguably one of the most poignant figures in the world music scene, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu and his astounding works have been celebrated with this astounding collection of live performances at our beloved Sydney Opera House.

Giving some of his classic compositions a magnificent and an otherworldly ambience, Gurrumul’s attraction has always been his firm love of the land stemming from his indigenous heritage. As part of the Gumatj clan of Elcho Island, off the coast of tropical North East Arnhem Land, he sings about identity, spirit and his inherent love of the land in the Yolngu language. This album in particular also features introductions from his family members, giving an insight into indigenous culture and the stories behind his beautiful music.

Gurrumul-9

From releasing his self-titled debut back in 2008 until now, Gurrumul has earned a wealth of high-profile fans. From the likes of Elton John and Sting, he has carved out a significant place in his Australian homeland and has been dubbed one of the most important voices in the Australian music.

Tune into Eastside Radio 89.7 throughout this week to hear tracks from the gorgeous album as well as the chance to win a copy!
