The Man from Coxs River (2014)

1966160_606524602758980_736495775_o

Along the remote wilderness of Cox’s River, an operation is undertaken to save a mob of ill-fated brumbies. The wild horses have been found at the pristine Burragorang valley. This water catchment has been closed off to the general public for more than 50 years. This places a caring National Parks Ranger, Chris Banffy, into a position where he requires the help of an independent horseman Luke Carlons, whose family has been based there since the 1920’s.

Despite a long history of challenging relations among the national park services and the Carlons, will the intense rescue force them be able to see each other’s perspectives and bring the brumbies to safety?

This new action packed Australian feature documentary investigates wilderness management and heritage whilst reinforcing the sense of Australian identity of a tough and resourceful individual. Carlon embodies this Australian ideal and spends most of four months bonding and feeding the wild horses to gain their trust.

The award winning director and writer of The Man from Coxs River is Russell Kilbey.

Recently both he and producer Amy Scully were interviewed by Toby Creswell on Eastside Radio. The insightful interview includes context of living in the Coxs River, how they discovered the story, the effects of the film on others and the process of  producing and making the film.
