Audi Festival of German Films – Now at Chauvel Cinema

With a line-up as tasty as Schnitzel, satisfying as Sauerbraten and enticing as Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, it’s no wonder that the Audi Festival of German Films 2014 is whetting cinematic appetites.

A bit cliché? Right. But the Audi Festival of German Films 2014 will actually shake up your clichés about German Cinema.

With a selection of over 50 award-winning and critically lauded features, shorts and documentaries, get a taste of Europe and beyond from March 26th to April 10th.

A taste of highlights:

“Banklady” – action crime-drama starring celebrated German actress Nadeshda Brennicke (Silver Hugo Best Actress Chicago 2013) , about West Germany’s first female bank robber in the 1960s

“Exit Marrakech” – drama starring Hafsia Herzi, about the exploration of culture and personal discovery in Morocco.

“Home from Home” (Bavarian Film Awards 2013) – history drama about the meaning of “home” for the many Europeans who settled in South America to escape poverty and famine in the 19th century.

“Houston” (Special Jury Prize Boston 2013) – drama featuring Ulrich Tukur about the confronting events happening to a company executive going to Texas to hire a new American CEO for his German company.

Aside the diverse film selection, the Festival is also the opportunity to know more about the various facets of German culture with fun/ interesting events at Chauvel Cinema:

– 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall on Thursday 3 April

– Reading performance about WWI (1914-2014) on Monday 7 April

– Live Jazz Music and Film on Sunday 30 March

– Horror Party for the Moonlight Mania on Wednesday 2 April

– Oriental Night on Wednesday 9 April

– Michelle Langford’s Book Launch (“Directory of World Cinema: German Vol. 2) on Tuesday 8 April at Goethe Institut
