Bandaged Bear Appeal

For 25 years the Bandaged Bear Appeal has been counted on to raise essential funds for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

The annual fundraiser helps doctors, nurses and researchers make every day count for more than 100,000 patients and families who rely on the Hospital’s expertise each year.

How to help
The Bandaged Bear Appeal aims to raise half a million dollars. You can help make every day count by:
– Making a donation
– Holding your own fundraising event at school, home or work
– Purchasing an iconic clip-on bear at selected train stations on March 27th
– Participating in the inaugural Grin and Bear It Challenge

Funds raised help the Hospital to purchase the most technologically advanced medical equipment, conduct vital research and maintain a total healing environment.

Lawn Library at Paddington Reservoir Gardens

The pop-up library, which houses an ever-changing collection of books and is a hub for events and activities, will be at the award-winning gardens, which is already a favourite spot for workers on their lunchbreak, from Saturday 29 March to Sunday 6 April.

The mobile bookcases will be at Paddington Reservoir Gardens, among the stunning tree-fern gardens and 19th century ruins of the original reservoir. The unique gardens are the perfect place to read and relax the mind. Bring a coffee and browse the shelves, have a relaxing read on a deckchair with some cool jazz. Free Wi-Fi will also be available at the gardens, as part of a six-month trial by the City.

The Lawn Library will be available daily from dawn to dusk, with everyone welcome to browse the shelves and choose a book from the wide range of fiction, architecture, history and children’s titles.

The City is also hosting a number of Lawn Library events in the gardens, including a drawing class, a talk about the Sydney Artists’ Balls, and jazz afternoons with musicians from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

A City librarian will be on hand at Lawn Library to assist with information about the range of library services available from midday to 2pm on weekdays and 10am to 3pm on weekends.

Sitkovetzky Trio

Since student days at the Menuhin School, the individually acclaimed young artists of the Sitkovetsky Trio have come together for the sheer joy of playing chamber music – a delight which is shared with their audiences!

As Alexander Sitkovetsky says of Beethoven’s ‘Archduke’ Trio: ‘We have so much physical and emotional joy when we play it – everything about the piece takes us to an incredibly happy place.’

Beethoven’s friend and supporter Archduke Rudolf would surely be only a footnote in history without the extraordinary work that now bears his name. Tchaikovsky’s Trio is an elegy for his mentor Nikolai Rubinstein; Smetana’s Trio is also a poignant memorial, said to reflect the sorrowful brevity of his talented little daughter’s short life.

More happily, renowned humanitarian Julian Burnside AO QC continues his visionary support of the arts through a new commission from Musica Viva’s Artistic Director Carl Vine, in honour of Carl’s 60th birthday.
