The Greek Project: One Night Only at City Recital Hall

The Greek Project, fronted by American jazz legend Charles Lloyd and “the voice of Greece” Maria Farantouri, is a unique fusion of Jazz and Classical music with a distinctly Greek flavour.

Charles Lloyd is well known to jazz aficionados as one of the most accomplished and innovative musicians working today. Predominantly a saxophonist, Lloyd has worked with some of the great names in modern music and has spent his professional career at the vanguard of jazz music. His collaboration with Maria Farantouri is no exception.

The Voice of Greece, as she is known, is a very popular singer in her native land and has devoted her life to singing. Her early career saw her become a symbol of resistance and hope in the late 60s, against the dictatorial regime in Greece. Her songs and collaboration with revolutionary composer Mikis Theodorakis, cemented her place in both the musical and political scene in Greece, ” The Joan Baez of the Mediterranean” (Le Monde).

The pair met in 2002 after a performance that Farantouri gave in the United States. The two become friends and a musical partnership blossomed. In 2010 they collaborated for a concert in Athens at the Herodion theatre, at the foot of the Acropolis.

Joining them in Sydney will be a star studded band of musicians from around the world including Takis Farazis (piano), Eric Harland (percussion, vocals), Reuben Rogers (bass) and Sokratis Sinopoulos (lyra).

This very special concert will only be in Sydney for one night, at the City Recital Hall, Angel Place, one of the city’s best venues and right in the heart of the CBD. Don’t miss this exclusive show and unique mix of music and culture.
