A Taste Of Honey April 3 2014
They were well ahead of their time-they pushed the the envelope way out in terms of challenging the sensitivity of the time-the 40’s and 50’s -not only the composers but the recording artistes.Song titles such as,‘My Big 10 Inch(Record of the Blues’,’I Want My Fanny Brown’,’My Ding-A-Ling’,’Don’t You Feel My Leg’,’It Ain’t The Meat(It’s The Motion)’,’I Love To Ride’,’Gotta Give Me What You Got’, and the artistes Julia Lee & Her Boyfriends(pic.left),Ella Mae Morse(pic.right),Big Joe Turner,Winonie Harris,Dave Bartholomew,Alberta Hunter,Dr.Horse and others-they built the foundation of the music that we came to know as Rock’N’Roll-they built it out of Rhythm and Blues and Country Swing and local patois-the Hip Hoppers of today have much to thank these musical pioneers for and in my opinion these artistes had more character and style than the majority of the new generation R&B’ers-their legacy has allowed music to evolve but this music still stands on its own,way up there and I am sure that the some of the lyrics can still cause a stir in most of us-the risque nature of the lyrics and the art of the double entendre all in the quality of the song and the delivery.
