Arts Monday 7 April 2014
ArtiFacts Eastside.
Join me, Jane Raffan, for an in-depth look at the Redlands Konica Minolta Art Prize, an exhibition of contemporary art at the National Art School, Darlinghurst.
The Redlands Art Prize aims to facilitate dialogue and mentoring between generations of artists. Up to 20 contemporary visual artists from Australia and New Zealand put forward a single work for the Prize, and then each of those established artists, in turn, is required to invite an emerging contemporary artist to present work. One artist from each category is awarded a prize.
My guest is the renowned artist Tim Johnson, Guest Curator of this year’s Prize. We’ll be chatting about his practice, the curatorial process and select works from the field of 40 works.
Tim Johnson’s practice has been described as “A visionary and often eclectic search for artistic and spiritual connections between cultures and countries”, and has (not without controversy) included collaboration with artists of other cultures, including our own Indigenous artists.

And the music? In recognition of the Prize’s mission to foster mentorship between artists we’ll be listening to a largely jazz-based playlist with music showing artistic influences from different cultural backgrounds.
As always, I look forward to your company, 10:30 to noon.
