Joshua Redman Quartet at SIMA
Every time you hear Redman, he’s at a higher level.- The New York Times
Redefining the boundaries of modern jazz with technique that is innovative, expansive and adventurous, Joshua Redman is widely considered this generation’s giant of the tenor saxophone. Son of legendary saxophonist Dewey Redman, he never intended on becoming a professional musician until he moved to NYC on a year’s deferment before starting a law degree at Yale University. Within five months he was named the winner of the Thelonius Monk international Saxophone Competition and his true calling was clear. He dedicated his life to music.
In addition to his two Grammy award nominations, Redman regularly earns top honours in critics and readers polls of Downbeat, Jazz Times, The Village Voice and Rolling Stone. He has recorded several albums and regularly collaborates with some of today’s most influential artists.
His long-standing all-star quartet features pianist Aaron Goldberg – described by Wynton Marsalis as “a modern improviser of great clarity, finesse, and dexterity” – the exuberantly fluent bassist Reuben Rogers, and Gregory Hutchinson, “the drummer of his generation” (Jazz Magazine)
