MOTHER & DAUGHTER PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION AND VIVID on Arts Monday with Margaux Dombkins

My first guest: Sally McInerney chats about the historic photographic exhibition with her mother, Olive Cotton “Mother & Daughter: A Conversation: These two notable Australian women photographers are exhibiting together for the very first time.

Olive’s daughter, Sally McInerney is a highly accomplished photographer and has held many solo exhibitions. This collection of Sally’s images reflects her life in Sydney and her love of the country.

Olive Cotton was married to renowned photographer, Max Dupain in the 1930s and ran the Dupain Studio in Sydney during the early war years. Olive later remarried Max McInerney and moved to Koorawatha, regional NSW. Olive Cotton is now widely celebrated as one of Australia’s greatest photographers.

My next guest: Neridah Wyatt-Spratt, Programs and Events Manager at the Australian National Maritime Museum. The Museum’s iconic roof will transform into an underwater wonderland and its historic vessels and surrounds illuminated in Aquatic Nights for VIVID Sydney.

Set to an aquatic inspired soundtrack, the Museum’s roof will pulse to the ebb and flow of ocean currents

Aquatic Nights is inspired by the museum’s Whale Season with its two major exhibitions: Amazing Whales – Evolution and Survival immerses visitors in the world of whales and highlights the importance of conservation to their future survival and Beautiful Whale – life size photography by Bryant Austin, giant underwater images of whales.

Created by The Electric Canvas the Aquatic Nights roof projection premieres on 23rd May with synced audio across Pyrmont Bridge.

The museum’s basin, historic vessels and Cape Bowling Green lighthouse will also be bathed in light and its harbourside walkway will remain open every evening during the Festival.  Vivid Sydney also has a program of free live music and DJs on selected weekend evenings during the festival when its waterside café, Yots, will transform into an aquatic inspired pop up bar serving tapas.

The line up includes bands and DJs such as rock-pop four piece The Maze, funk/reggae powerhouse Tommy M and the Mastersounds, one of Australia’s finest singer/songwriters Neil Murray and club DJ sensation I Am Sam.
