Lemi Ponifasio and his company MAU return to Carriageworks with the Australian premiere of Stones In Her Mouth. A ten-member ensemble of Maori women articulate a powerful and undisguised challenge – voiced through the Maori language, genealogy, spirituality and ceremony. Drawing on the Maori tradition of women as the writers of poetry and chant, MAU’s ensemble gives expression to resiliency and outrage in the face of social and political change. Through oratory, choral-work and dance, Stones In Her Mouth gives voice to intense personal emotions and holds a mirror to contemporary life.

How to get to this event: Rail: CarriageWorks is an eight-minute walk from the Redfern Station. Redfern Station is easily accessed from Central,

Macdonaldtown Station is a 10 minute walk; take the Inner West line from Central.

Fix-it Workshop: It’s Toasted
Household electronic items can break and end up in landfill.
Give them a new life at this fix-it workshop. Learn and speak to experts who repair items regularly. Bring your broken toaster, kettle or other small domestic appliance for an appraisal and advice about repair.
Simple repairs will be done on the spot at no cost. You may even be able to do it yourself! Learn when it may be cheaper to repair than buy new.
There is a growing interest around the world in re-learning the lost art of repair. UTS is committed to sustainability and reducing waste going to landfill, this free workshop is open to the general public and all UTS students and staff.
Electricians from the Bower will facilitate this workshop. The Bower is a not for profit reuse centre which has initiated Sydney’s first repair café, to be launched on Wednesday 14th May.
This workshop is supported by the City of Sydney’s Community Environmental Grants.

Designers’ Den
At this VIVID event, a pre-selected number of contestants will be invited to present their designs to a panel of industry experts before a live audience in a suspense filled game-show format. At Designers’ Den, contestants have a unique opportunity to present their idea to our carefully curated panel to gather invaluable feedback in their quest for design survival.
