Beach Breaks Carnival

Some might say that the weather is too cold for the surf right now, but that just helps separate the wheat from the chaff, or in this case the Hall of Famers from the also-rans. As part of the Beach Breaks Carnival on Sunday 27 July 2014, a pair of Maroubra natives, who would never have let the nippy weather prevent them from hitting the water, Mark Scott and Dennis Green will be inducted into the Australian Surfing Walk of Fame at Maroubra Beach.

The first beach in the state to be declared a National Surfing Reserve is considered to be one of the best surfing beaches in the city and the origin of some of the country’s most famous surfers. With a display from some young up and comers in different age divisions, you could be watching the next big talent out of the Bra.

“The Beach Breaks Carnival is a real celebration of Maroubra Beach and the unique cultural history this area has” Randwick’s Acting Mayor, Cr Anthony Andrews, “As well as plenty of surf action for spectators, we’ll have mouth-watering food, colourful market stalls, and lots of rides and kids’ activities – including dodgem cars and a pirate ship.”

The carnival celebrates Maroubra’s surfing history and its deep beach culture as a whole.

“We will also be hosting the grand finale of our youth band competition, BANDSLAM, which means there will be some amazing local, live music to enjoy as well. The Beach Breaks Carnival is a celebration of our community, our culture and local and international surfing success. I hope everyone takes the opportunity to attend with their family and friends,” Andrews said.

Proudly presented by Randwick Council, this free event is sure to be a hit with the whole family and a wonderful celebration of Maroubra’s rich history.
