Magical Little Moments on the Eastside

From time to time, magical little things happen at Eastside Radio. Often it’s those little moments that have the biggest impact on us here.

Today it was the universal joy around the station at the veritable treasure trove of old music courtesy of a generous supporter of the station.

Album covers from Ray Charles, George Golla and Chick Corea/Gary Burton.

Old/new treasures

One of our listeners donated a big box full of old records to the station, and we all found a topic of conversation as we discovered the contents. It is easy to picture: John admires the Nina Simone album he is holding, Anna twirls Rubber Soul around, and Tony can’t get over the condition of the handful of early ECMs. The collection is a few dozen records, top quality recordings and all in great nick. They will be digitised and added to our library, then stored safely in their current form, easily accessible to the vinyl junkies.

1974 Australian classic

This is certainly not the first time we have received such a bundle and (we hope!) certainly not the last, but we all piled around the box like kids at Christmas, picking out the various albums and commenting on their condition and value. It was one of those little moments here at Eastside that we are always grateful for.

We rely on our supporters to keep us on the air, playing great music, telling great stories and keeping you informed of what is happening in your city. The generosity of our supporters and listeners is our life blood and whether it is in financial donations or the sort we benefitted from today it all counts.

Here at Eastside we talk a lot about the importance of community and our place in it, and moments like this go a long way to reminding us why.

Album cover, Paul Marks.

All from the treasure box.
