The Sydney Latin American Film Festival has been showcasing the wealth of Latin American cinema and culture to Sydney audiences since 2006.

Shorts & Sounds

Shorts & Sounds is all about showcasing Latino music, film and dance. It’s not just about having a great time – we’re celebrating the diversity of Latin American culture. This year we’re back with an amazing line-up of traditional and contemporary Latin influences. Sizzling live music, dance performances, short films – plus don’t forget your dance shoes, as we Salsa the night away.

Where:  The Basement, 29 Reiby Place, Circular Quay

When:  Wednesday Aug 13th, 7pm onwards

Tickets:  $15 first release / $18 pre-sale from online here or $25 on the door.

 

Opening Night Fiesta | Behaviour / Conducta

Opening Night Fiesta

Following the screening of our Opening Night Film Behaviour, the Festival will serve up a fabulous fiesta headlined by Mucho Mambo, a truly authentic latin band with a funky edge complemented by the sounds of DJ Señor Bolivar. Feast on a delicious selection of bites and enjoy our favourite drinks from Pacífico Beer and Havana Club Rum!

Anina – Special Children’s Section

Anina

Beautifully animated and filled to the brim with humour and empathy, Anina is the debut feature from Uruguayan animator Alfredo Soderguit. A multi award-winning film and Uruguay’s submission to the Best Foreign Language Film, Oscar Academy Awards 2014, Anina is a warm, whip-smart film that speaks to both children and adults.

I Still Am / Sigo siendo (Kachkaniraqmi)

I still am

A tale divided in three parts – Ayacucho (the Andes), Amazonia (the jungle) and the Coast (Lima, the city) – where they continue to sing in their native language and preserve a unique way of playing their instruments. I Still Am captures the country’s most beautiful and distant locations without turning its back to some of its most pressing social and economic problems.

Join us for some before and after-movie fun complementing selected screenings, featuring Carmen Alicia and Claudio Hevia performing a tribute to the Nueva Trova Cubana & Señor Bolivar spinning Reggae and alternative Mexican tunes.
