Travel Guide @ City Recital Hall

Coming this November at the City Recital Hall, Ralph Towner, Wolfgang Muthspiel and Slava Grigoryan are bringing their album Travel Guide to Sydney fans.Formed in 2005, American Towner, Austrian Muthspiel and Kazakhstan-born Australian Grigoryan have brought their different musical guitar stylings together to create the album Travel Guide.

Although the trio have been classically trained and inspired with their guitar work, each guitarist likes to bring their own distinct ideas about composition and performance to their work, bringing an eclectic yet simulating sound to their music.

The release of their album Travel Guide brought the opportunity for Towner, Muthspiel and Grigoryan to expand their body of work and explore the different guitar stylings of world, jazz and modern classical music. Produced by ECM founder Manfred Eicher, the album has been a hit for the group and has brought them a lot of praise.

Limelight Magazine commented that the album has “…astounding virtuosity… head-spinningly intricate ensemble passages”.

The fact that each member of the trio has had a different cultural background and musical journey has allowed the layering of experience and complexity to come out in a way that allows listeners to hear each of their unique approaches to composition and performance but in a way that showcases their signature style as a group.

Towner, Muthspiel and Grigoryan will be playing at The City Recital Hall on Saturday November 1st, 2014 at 7:30pm.
