Street Art
A visit to the new Paddington Art Market last Sunday was a great chance to see the work of some talented artists in a great outdoor setting – alongside Oxford Street’s Victoria Barracks.
With a range of work and artists on exhibition, the market is an initiative of Woollahra Municipal Council, in collaboration with City of Sydney. Part of the program for the revitalisation of Oxford Street, it was refreshing to see some real street life return to the area.
An exhibition like this one not only gives potential buyers a great venue to stroll around, it encourages the artists and curators to be out there too, talking to their audience. Among many others there last Sunday, I met Simon Chan from Art Atrium, a local gallery which features Contemporary Australian and Aboriginal Art. Also Ethne Benn, exhibiting her earthy-toned groups and landscapes.
The current plan is for the markets to run every Sunday for the next two weeks and continue on a periodic basis after then. We’ll keep you updated here with dates and times.
If you can’t go along this Sunday, put some time in your calendar for the next one. We’ll be adding some more artists and website links here, so you’ll be able to see just who’s out and about in the Paddington area.
Supported through the Woollahra Council Community and Cultural Grants Program.
